Valentine's Day and Spartacus: Vengeance

Valentine's day is coming up. Fifteen days away, if I count correctly.

I love Valentine's Day. The romance, the drama, everything. It's wonderful. I've had my share of good, romantically inclined Valentine's Days, as well as some rotten ones, and ones where I was single. As I'm typing this, I can honestly say that I'm seeing someone, so I'm planning on this Valentine's Day to be a better one.

That said, gifts. I'm a big gift buyer. I like to give people gifts. On Valentine's Day, I'm unsure of the protocol. I'd like to give my darling boyfriend a nice gift, but at the same time, I'm somewhat unsure. Do guys want Valentine's gifts? Do they like them? What on earth would you get a guy?

Women are easy to shop for on Valentine's Day. I hate to say it, but I'm quite a cliche. I like the whole nine yards: dinner, flowers, candies, teddy bears, and any combination of those things. I would never be upset if I didn't get an extravagant gift, but if he picks something stereotypical, I'm fine with that.

Guys on the other hand, don't work like that. I'd never buy a boyfriend flowers, and I think he'd only roll his eyes at a stuffed animal of any kind. I did get him a few of his favourite candies, and a nice gift bag to hold it all, but I'd like to get him something inedible. I've done books before, so I might fall back on that plan, or I might go out on a limb and think of something else. Do you have any suggestions for non-edible Valentine's gifts for men?

On another far-less-female note...Spartacus.

Friday was the first day of the new season of Spartacus, subtitled "Vengeance". As noted in a previous post, I really got excited for this season. The new Spartacus (Liam McIntyre), who replaced Andy Whitfield, was...I don't want to say good, and I don't want to say bad. Liam did a good job, and I mean that. I think that he's going to be great this season. Although, he isn't Andy Whitfield. They play the character differently, and that certainly is to be expected.

Liam plays a much darker, broodier, surlier Spartacus. Where Andy was delicate and almost gymnast-like, Liam is tough and no-nonsense. It's highly different, and something that I think you have to see to understand.

Nevertheless, I'm still a fan of the show. This season seems more violent, and more rugged than the other two, but I think it will work.
