The Pretty Committee

I try not to get stuck to just one or two brands of makeup. I find that it’s better to switch it up sometimes, and try a little of everything. That’s why I usually don’t have a post on multiple items of one brand (unless it’s Essence, because that stuff is fantastic and dirt cheap). Sometimes though, the deal is just so good that you can’t pass it up (again Essence). Last weekend, I was working until about 5, and then walked to catch my bus home. To get to the bus depot, I have to walk past the Sephora. I saw that Benefit was having an event, and stopped in.

First, the benefit girls were extra nice. They were so sweet, and just kept trying stuff on me. It was through something called Benefit Beauty School, where they all were dressed as teachers. While they were there, if you spent $60, or bought a kit, then you got free samples. They were really the nicest people too. I don’t take my wallet to work, because there isn’t really any reason to, so I couldn’t buy a thing. The girl who was helping me said that they were only going to be there for another hour, and that once they were gone, I wouldn’t be able to get the free samples again! She then really nicely said that they would save everything for me until I got back to the mall, as long as I could get there before closing.

I got there just in time, paid for my things, and was off to try them out.

The kit I got was called The Pretty Committee, and I’m so very pleased with it. I’ve been using it for a few days and couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

It comes in a cute little mesh bag that’s a nice antique gold colour. One of the things I love about Benefit is the vintage detailed packaging. It’s adorable.

Inside are four items.

Stay Don’t Stray is an eye primer. I’d just run out of my primer, so it was the perfect time to try a new one. I have noticed that my eyeshadows have lasted longer since using it, which is really nice. My only real complaint is that the pump dispenses too much product. You have to be really delicate with it, or you end up with a lot of product being wasted, and that’s no fun. It also gets rid of the natural red tinge to my eye, so the colours apply more naturally, which I like. To top it off, it’s just about the same shade as my skin, so it can double as a concealer in a pinch, I’m told.

Next is Eye Bright, which is this pinky-nude eyeliner. You draw it on your waterline, as well as your inner (and outer, if you want) corners to brighten them up. If we’re being honest, it looks ridiculous on your outer corner. At least on mine. Inner corners and waterlines, fine. It does do a really good job of brightening up the area. I usually do a white liner on my waterline, and this just looks so much more natural. The big issue with this is that it works fantastically well on me, but I imagine that the pink shade would be hard to work with on other skin tones.

The kit also comes with a smaller version of High Beam, but you never need much, so this didn’t bother me. High Beam is a viscous liquid highlighter. You dab some on your cheekbones, nose, brow bones, wherever you usually highlight, and then dab it in. It gives you just the right dose of bright. You do have to work quickly, or you end up with a white blotchy streak on your face, as it dries rather fast.

Finally, you get one of the box blushes in Bella Bamba. This is why I bought this kit. I saw this, and it looked so amazing that I had to snap it up. One of the girls at the store showed me this, and said it would be perfect for me. I disagreed a little, because in the box, it’s neon pink and glittery. SO glittery. On the skin, it becomes this natural glow. This beats every blush I’ve ever used by a long shot. It goes on so nicely, with a gorgeous wash of colour.  As an aside, when did Blush stop being Rouge? My grandmother wore rouge. I think I’ll call it that from now on.

These four items were $42 together, which is a bit of a bargain given the pricey nature of Benefit’s things when you buy them separately. The thing that I have noticed is that all of their kits are significantly lower in price than they really should be, and the quality is pretty good. I do recommend trying the products on in store if you can, but buying them in a kit. It’s just the best bargain.

What’s your perfect blush?
