March 2014 Topbox

I cancelled my Topbox subscription (because I'm going to the USA, not because I hate it), so April's box will be my last one. I'm hoping my last two are really great, and March's box definitely lived up to my expectations.

A few of the things that I got are items that have been kicking around in other people's Topboxes for a while, which is something that bothers me about the company. Although it works out in your favour if you didn't get a product you really wanted one month, it doesn't make you feel like the products you're getting are special.

Anyway, onto the box.

Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey
Transparent pigment merges with the unique, natural tone of your lips to create something wonderful and yours alone. Sheer, glossy. Emollient-rich and very lightweight.
Full size: $19 for 1.9g
Sample Size: Gloss $12 (1.2g)

This looks really intimidating in the tube. Like, really intimidating. When you put it on though, it’s very neutral and not terrifying at all. Anyone could wear this, and I mean anyone. I’m really happy to have gotten this. I can see getting a lot of wear out of it.

Belvada Cosmetics Blackhead Facial Mask
Apply the mask to face. Wait 20-30 minutes. Peel off. Cleanse face with warm water.
No price listed.

I’ve gotten a couple of products from Belvada in Topboxes in the past, and if we’re being completely clear, I think that they suck. Last month I got a pair of tweezers from them that I’ve already tossed because they actually broke in half. The month before I got a lip butter that I thought was really good, but left a funny gray residue on my lips. Based on my experience with them, I was a little bit less enthused to get this. There wasn’t a price listed, and this isn’t their website, so I’m a little suspicious of that as well. The masks themselves are black like ink and have the consistecy of tar. Putting it on is difficult and unpleasant because of the thick consistency. It dries on really quickly, so don't expect to move your face at all. I left it on for the full 30 minutes and it really set up like concrete. Peeling it off is like ripping off one of those nose blackhead strips, except it doesn't matter how slow you go, it's still painful and feels like you're ripping your skin off, but it stops quickly. In terms of results, it's great. My pores feel completely cleaned out and my skin is noticeably better. Although I was skeptical, this is a good product, and I'm happy with it.

Can't smile if you can't move your face.
Lashem Picture Perfect Instant Wrinkle Reducer
Dab a thin layer around your eyes and face after your cleansing routine. Must be completely dry before applying makeup or other face creams. Use consistently for long term effects. Can be used both at night or during the day. .
Full size: $40 for 15mL
Sample Size: $40 (Full Size)

I’m only 21, so I don’t need to reduce my wrinkles. I put some on the back of my hand to take a photo and rubbed it in after I was done, and it made my skin more matte, as well as stickier, even after it was dry. I’m going to give this a try tomorrow when I put my makeup on, and we will see how it goes then.

Benefit Cosmetics BADgal Lash Mascara
Sexy, dramatic, pure unadulterated black mascara for full, voluminous lashes. Famously big brush coats lashes with our thick black formula. It’s as BAD as you want to be.
Full size: $26 for 8.5g
Sample size: $12.24 (4.0g)

Two months ago, my Cargo mascara was dried out when I opened it, so Topbox sent me this as a replacement in last month’s box. I didn’t count it as part of my regular Topbox, so I didn’t blog about it. I’m disappointed to see this product again. The nice thing about this mascara is its giant wand. The mascara itself is just okay, and doesn’t really justify its big-name price. I emailed Topbox about the duplicate, so maybe next month they’ll replace it with something better.

Clinique Black Honey and Lashem Picture Perfect

Total Value: $64.24, plus the face masks with no price.

Wow. This was a pretty good box overall. I mean, I don’t need anti-aging, and a product was a repeat, but I don’t think that they’re bad products. Again, a few of the samples I got are things that I know other people have been getting for the past several months. It makes me feel like they’re really just trying to get rid of leftovers and that’s kind of a letdown.

One more month left!

What did you get in your subscription box this month?
