Sephora Favorites | Meet Your Match

I was out and about a few days ago and picked up this little gem from Sephora. It’s the Meet Your Match set with three different pairs of matching lip and nail colors. I love the value sets from Sephora because you always get great value for your cash and this had a few products that I wanted to try. The whole set was $25.

First, let’s talk nail polishes.

L-R: Nails Inc, Sephora, Deborah Lippmann
Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish in Girls Just Want to Have Fun
Corally orange is my go-to color for the summer months. Here it’s incredibly hot, so this shade really matches the bright weather. I had never tried a Deborah Lippmann polish because I just could not bring myself to spend the $20 for a single nail polish. I just couldn’t. I am very happy that I can try it out without going to the trouble. Unfortunately…I am less than impressed so far. It took three coats to get it to be opaque. It took forever to dry, and didn’t wear well without a top coat. In good news, the color is just gorgeous. I do love the color, but I’m not sure that Deborah Lippmann will be a staple for me any time soon.

Nails Inc Nail Polish in Devonshire Row
Nails Inc is such a hit-or-miss brand in terms of formulation. I always love the colors, but I don’t get too jazzed about much else. This one appears to be the exception. Of the polishes in the set, this one is the best. It’s fully opaque in only one coat, and wears the longest (unusual for Nails Inc). It’s also this season’s hot color: radiant orchid. I’m sure that this one will be making an appearance more than once.

Sephora Formula X Nail Polish in Invincible
I have heard nothing but rave reviews about the reformulation of the Sephora brand nail polishes. I hadn’t gotten the chance to stop by and try one, so I was again very pleased to have one. This one is a miss for me. I like the color fine. It’s a pretty standard bone color. I don’t usually wear nudes, but there are occasions that call for them, and this is as good as any other. The formula leaves something to be desired. It takes three full coats to make it opaque and I just could not get it to go on smoothly. After hearing such rave reviews I am hoping that this is the one miss in an otherwise brilliant collection.

So let’s talk lip colors next.

L-R: Bite, OCC, Tarte
Tarte Lipsurgence Lip Tint in Elite
I love Tarte. I don’t try nearly enough products from them. I am consistently impressed. This lip tint is no exception. The orange color is both bright and fun while still being very wearable. I feel confident pulling this off anywhere, including the office. I will say that it isn’t…special. I find that a lot of the chubby lip pencil-type products are very similar to each other, and this is definitely true of this product.

Bite Beauty Lip Gloss in Strangefruit
If you haven’t seen at least a few brilliant reviews on the Bite lipsticks, you must be living under a rock, but I hadn’t heard much about their lip glosses. I had tried a lipstick from them and loved it, and this lip gloss is also great. It’s fairly standard. The pigmentation is sheer, but does have that hint of orchid. It’s gorgeous on the lips. It tastes fruity, not floral. The consistency is kind of sticky. That doesn’t bother me, but I know some of you won’t like the stickiness much. I’ll be wearing this one for sure.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Hush
This came with it’s own little lip brush to apply it with. I know that the lip tars are a cult favorite in certain circles, but this is the first one I’ve gotten my hands on. Hush is a gorgeous pink nude and you only need the tiniest speck to cover your whole lips. The coverage is great. It is kind of drying, so I have to keep a lip balm around just in case, but that isn’t terribly uncommon. It doesn’t wear off gracefully however. It fades kind of badly and leaves the dreaded lipstick ring around the outside. This doesn’t happen for hours (4 or 5) but it is something to pay attention to.

Montana doesn’t have any freestanding Sephora stores. I don’t think that anywhere is big enough for that. As well, there isn’t this makeup-guru culture that you see in a lot of other places. I find that people here wear far less makeup than I'm used to seeing in the city. Because of this, our Sephora is inside of the JCPenney. It’s just as good as any other store, but in the freestanding stores, instead of the OCC Lip Gloss, you get an Hourglass one. I’m a little bummed about that, but what can you do? That’s why mine might be a little different than what you might see online or at your Sephora. I’ll just have to go pick up an Hourglass gloss extra now. ;)

L-R: Tarte, OCC, Bite
I’m really happy with this set. I think that I’ll be able to use all of the things in it this summer. I can highly recommend.

What do you think of the set? Do you like the colors? Which is your favorite?
