Makeup by One Direction

I feel like we can be honest with each other. I love One Direction. I’m not just saying that. I own all of their albums. I have a favorite song, and a favorite guy. Let’s be honest, we all know Louis is the best.

When I had the opportunity to try out their new line of cosmetics, I jumped at the chance. I will admit, I was a little sceptical. Products branded by celebrities, especially those that appeal to young teenage girls, are not known for their great quality. I’m happy to say that this was an exception.

Makeup by One Direction comes in three different collectible sets. The one I got is called Up All Night and is definitely on the edgy side. I love the packaging it comes in. The metal box, as well as all of the makeup packaging, has this cool distressed brick look.

The makeup itself is of fairly good quality, even if it is colors that I can’t use every day.
In this package were six different items.

First is the eye shadow palette with five stunning and incredibly pigmented colors. They are soft and buttery and go on very smoothly. The blues are so vibrant that I don’t think they’re quite appropriate for the office, but would be great for a night out. Blue on the eyes is also especially popular right now.

The five colors in the palette are:
More Than This – Soft blushing pink
Gotta Be You – Silvered taupe shimmer
Save You Tonight – Shimmering turquoise blue
Another World – Royal blue shimmer
Up All Night – Sapphire glitter crème

To add an even bigger pop of color, also in the kit is an Eye and Body Crayon. Mine was in the color “Stand Up”. This also glides on so smoothly, but it takes a little bit of practice to get used to finessing the thick crayon around. It’s also extra smudgy, if you like that kind of look.

To finish off the eyes, there is the “Little Black Dress” Volumizing Mascara. This mascara is great if you want something a little more natural-looking. It doesn’t go on too thick or clump up, and didn’t smudge all day for me.

There are also two lip products. The first is a bright bubblegum-pink lipstick called “I Should Have Kissed You”. This lipstick is very similar both in packaging and consistency to the NYX Black Label Lipsticks that I love. It’s really bright, but goes on smoothly and stays put.

The other lip product is a Liquilights Glow Gloss in “Taken”. This is also a really bright li color with some heavy shimmer. It also glows neon under UV light. I haven’t put this to the test, but I bet it would be neat to try out at a downtown night out.

I was really surprised to see that there was a nail polish included in the tin. “Na Na Na” is a turquoise metallic nail polish, not unlike some others I have in my collection. While it does take a full three coats to get an opaque finish, this is some of the fastest drying nail polish I’ve ever used.

The final item was a pack of stencils to use to make doodles on yourself or your books or something. I’m not sure what I’ll use these for, but you never know when you’re going to need that kind of thing.

Overall, I’m pleased with this. It’s certainly far better quality than I had expected, and I feel like I’ll be able to get some use out of all of these. I know that this is targeted at a younger age than I am, and I can see how it’s going to appeal to them. That said, pleasant surprise with this. Definitely not just for the fourteen year olds.

This limited-edition collection will be out in stores starting on August 11th at your local Macy’s, and then will be branching out to  Dillards and other retailers on August 25th! Keep your eye out for it.
