August Favorites

It's been a couple of months since my last favourites and I thought that I would do a little update on the things I have been loving since then. Of course, all of my old favourites are still products I love, but as we switch into a new season its been time to change it up.

My skin has been doing some strange things since I moved to Montana. It's still desert-dry, but has occasional oily patches now. It's something I've never had to deal with and it's been a little bit of a learning curve. I've been using Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet Matifying Foundation for a few months now and have just been in love. It stays on all day and keeps the oily patches at bay, but doesn't look cakey or strange on my dry skin either.

I have been very adamantly anti-Pinterest for almost the entire time it's been a mainstream thing. Last month, I had to do some things for my job on Pinterest, and bam. Hooked. One of the most common things I see is the “Tuck and Cover” hairstyle where you wrap your hair around an elasticated headband. Like here, here, or here. Of course I had to try it and it's become one of my go-tos. To dress it up a little I have been using this statement headband. It's silver and gold so it matches everything!

I'm once again the last to the party with the Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer in Nova. I love this lipstick? Lip stain? I don't even know what to call it. It's something else. It goes on like a thick pigmented gloss, dries matte, and then stays put. The one downfall of this is that when its time has come and it has had enough, it's traumatic. It wears off in an ugly and uneven way. Given this is six or eight hours later, I'm willing to let it slide, but do keep an eye on it as it nears its expiration date. I also love this bright pink color and will keep on using it as long as I can as we move into autumn.

I've gone to several evening charity events over the past months because of my work. My usual look for those nights is a grey smoky eye. The best base for this is without a doubt Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr Eyeshadow in Audacious Asphalt. It goes on so smoothly and is an opaque, shimmery wash of grey immediately. It's also great because it doesn't look like you have a black eye, which is sometimes a problem with grey shadows. I slide this one on with my finger before I apply any other colours and it provides a perfect base for the powders to stick to.

On my recent camping expedition trip (post to come!) I forgot all of my hair products like a moron. I just didn't bring them. Now, curly haired girls, you know that is an unacceptable situation, so I ran to the local drug store and picked up a can of Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly Tousling Mousse. This was my holy grail product in high school, but I somehow stopped using it. Well it's back and I still love it. It's comparable to the Matrix mousse that I usually use and a fraction of the price.

I start a new job today and nail polish is forbidden. I have been enjoying my super bright colors as best as I can before it's out of my life for a little while. Another old favorite, I have been loving Salon Hanson Salon Manicure in Tickle Me Pink for something bright and girly.

I was listening to a podcast, and the guy mentioned that switching to an electric toothbrush had changed his life. I was sceptical, but I made the switch to the Oral B Electric Toothbrush. My teeth feel cleaner, I've got many many comments that they look whiter. It truly is life changing. I've been pairing my spiffy toothbrush with the Green Beaver Zesty Orange Natural Toothpaste. It's vegan, gluten free, and sodium lauryl sulphate free. SLS is the stuff that makes shampoo foam up, so I don't really want that in my mouth. Bonus: great orange taste. Natural toothpaste is usually really icky. I'm looking at you Tom's of Maine. But this stuff is great!

I've already mentioned the Valentia Even Glow Serum in a sponsored post, but I wouldn't mention it here unless it really was one of my favourites The bright citrus scent and deep moisturizing qualities make my skin routine in the morning a little bit more special than they otherwise would be.

My last favorite has been essential the past weeks. Klorane Extra Gentle Dry Shampoo has been what keeps my updos looking nice and my second day hair looking like first day hair. This has replaced my beloved Batiste as my favorite dry shampoo.

So that's what I have been loving for the past little while. I'll probably do another as we get a little further into the fall.

What are your favourites as we close out the summer?
