Barkbox Unboxing: Chinese New Year

Biscuit’s favorite day is when UPS drops off our Barkbox each month. Biscuit gets the Large Barkbox (she’s 65 pounds now!), and it always has the best treats and toys for her. She’s a happy camper when we’re pulling apart all of the things in the box.

This month is the most adorable box that I think we’ve gotten. It’s lunar New Year themed, so it has the cutest Chinese-themed toys and snacks. Maybe they’re a little stereotypical, but whatever, they’re for my dog.

Benny’s Famous Noodles

This is super cute. It’s a plushie takeout box filled with knotted rope “noodles”. Biscuit loves rope toys and launched into this immediately. She’s throwing the rope around the living room as I’m typing this. Thumbs up from my tester.

Nootie Chomp Sticks

These smell kind of like apples mixed with rancid beef jerky. You guys know the rule of dog treats – the worse it smells, the more they love it. Biscuit does love these, but it took her a while to figure out that she liked them, as seen in my unboxing video. Sometimes she’s weird about food, but these get the stamp of approval too.

Trachea by Butcher’s Block

I’m not really a fan of the trachea. Or the tendon. Or the nose. I can handle the pizzles and the ears for the dog. Maybe because those seem normal? But there’s something about having this gross, smelly trachea that puts me off. Biscuit is also not a huge fan of trachea time. She prefers to throw it around like a stick instead of eating it. Thumbs down.

Furchun Cookie

I had seen these at a specialty dog boutique and nearly bought one, but I’m glad I didn’t. It’s a natural rubber compound that’s durable and flexible. We’re starting to build up a nice collection of durable toys for Biscuit, and I do not doubt that this one will be around for a while. We’ve been filling it with treats or peanut butter and its fun to watch her shake it around. Another winner.

Healthy Dogma Kung Pow Chicken Biscuits

Healthy Dogma makes really great crunchy dog biscuits. My Biscuit is pretty finicky about the harder treats that she wants to eat, but we’ve never had a problem with Dogma. Their treats are healthy, but also not that weird hippie healthy. Occasionally Barkbox sends weird pea-protein-hemp-fruit-hipster-kale biscuits, and that tends to turn me off. These are a great balance between that and something I could buy at PetSmart. One more great choice.

4 out of five winners this month makes this Barkbox yet another winner. I love their durable yet cute toy options, as well as their totally-not-gross treats. Totally worth the $20-something subscription! If you have a dog, or probably even a cat, you know how pricey it can be to buy them new toys and treats every month, so I think this is great value for money. And it's like puppy Christmas every month!

If you love your dog (or maybe someone else’s?) you can get them a Barkbox subscription here. If you use that link, you get a FREE month (!) and a dog in a shelter gets a Barkbox! Make a shelter dog’s day!
