Financial Nightmares: Who Watches the Watchmen?

Hello my lovelies.

Today, I was in a really crafty mood and wanted to run down to the fabric store, or maybe even Michael's, to quench my Martha Stewart fueled thirst. However, this was not to be, because of TRANSIT STRIKE DAY THREE.

I thought this guy was cute <3
The strike is starting to be annoying. Even more annoying because the next city council meeting, at which the strike would be discussed was cancelled. Why? Because there was "nothing of note on the agenda".

What.

Possibly angering further the already politically volatile student population is, as always, nothing of note.

On that same vein, today I was helping a friend do a quick review of the budget for a student union. It wasn't for the student union of my university, just to clarify. The numbers were all over the place, drastically over and under budget, not logical, obvious that the finance advisor was highly confused about how to make a budget.

And then I thought: Who watches the watchmen?

The finance officer, along with the other members of  the executive have access to upwards of $200,000, and it's being mismanaged. The scary thing is that these people are elected, and they are given this autonomy over all of these funds, with no one to check over them. I don't think that these people are corrupt, just that they don't really know how to handle the positions they've been given. It's terrifying in a way, the trust they are given over more than $200 of these students' dollars every year. It's one of the reasons I try to disentangle myself from the student unions: because there is no one to make sure they do their job.
